Smart logistics in hotels: why a laundry chute is more than just a pipe in the wall

A hotel room is left spotless every day: neatly made beds, fresh towels—everything is ready for the next guest. What most guests don’t see is the logistics behind the scenes. How does used linen get back to the laundry so quickly? In a modern hotel, everything revolves around efficiency—not only for the guests, but also behind the scenes.

This is where the laundry chute comes in. A smart, vertical solution that effortlessly transports used linen from floor to collection area. No laundry carts in the hallway and no delays caused by crowded elevators. Especially in multi-storey hotels, a chute brings structural time savings, reduces physical strain on staff, and contributes to a quieter and cleaner work environment.

For hotel chains like Marriott, this isn’t a luxury, but a logical step in optimizing internal processes. That’s exactly why the Marriott Residence Inn in Ghent chose a solution from Stansz during construction.

The Stansz laundry chutes are now also expanding internationally. Commissioned by Cordeel (Temse), the new Marriott Residence Inn in Ghent was equipped with a Stansz laundry chute in September 2019.

The system ensures that all linen from the four floors is transported directly and vertically to the central collection area. This results in an efficient and energy-saving solution, eliminating the need to use elevators for linen logistics.
